So there's been big news in the Mt. Laurel area of New Jersey. There's a black bear wandering around! I have a few relatives that live in that area and I wish I could drive there and track it down myself. It's so exciting to see a bear in "the wild" and not behind the glass at the zoo. So, one of my relatives tells me it was down the street from her yesterday and she did not try to go see it. My other relative (not by blood but considered family just the same) texted me a picture of a bear in her company's parking lot! I wanna go see!!!!!
The other wildlife in New Jersey? I came home to a policeman standing in my yard yesterday. My first thought was "O my God, what happened to my husband, in-laws, aunt, parents, etc...." The next thought was "What did I do wrong? Did I forget to pay a ticket years ago, is there something wrong with my house? Do I need a permit for something?" I pulled in the driveway and the officer said, "Do you live here?" I paused before acknowledging that I lived there and he told me that he had trapped a possibly rabid raccoon under my canoe and he was waiting for animal control to come take it away. You have no idea how relieved I was to hear it was only about a raccoon. My daughter's were so excited they ran into the house to a good viewing area and watched and videoed the whole thing. I don't know where they get it from! :)
Poor guy was definitely injured. Animal control said they were unsure if he was rabid or just banged up real bad. :(
